We just got back from my 41 week midwife appointment. It was great! We accidently got there WAY too early (thought the appt was at a different time), but it worked out for the best because they had a lot to talk to us about.
Apparently, they haven't had an OB request to see one of their patients so early before. They were concerned about what the OB was going to tell us and wanted to prepare us for anything -- especially how to deal with pressure to have an induction. They gave us lots of good advice and I feel so much better about seeing the OB tomorrow!
Also, I requested an internal exam from my midwife. Good news! I am 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated! I guess all of these contractions have been doing something after all. I had asked her to do a stretch and sweep, but she said that things were progressing enough on their own that she didn't think she needed to. Yay! I was actually glad to hear that because the check was painful enough, I can only imagine how uncomfortable the stretch and sweep would have been! She did seem to stir things up a bit anyway cause I'm having some cramping now.
I also have to have another BPP done tomorrow. Apparently the one I had yesterday was too far away from the OB appointment to be of use, argh. So, I see the OB tomorrow at 12:45pm, then have the BPP at 2:45pm ... should be a busy day.
And the last thing that happened at the appointment was that I found out my midwife is off-call this weekend! She goes off-call tonight at 6pm and won't be back till Sunday night :( Mary (my backup midwife) will be the one who attends the birth if it happens this weekend, otherwise Susan (my usual midwife) will give me a call on Sunday night when she's back to see how I'm doing. If there's no baby this weekend I'll probably stop in and see her on Monday for the stretch and sweep.
Anyway, great appointment and I'm feeling more optimistic that I won't be pregnant forever! Next appointment will be Thursday, July 21 (!)
